Question22

22. I am building a room-in-the-roof conversion and need to upgrade the fire performance of the floor without renewing or replacing the existing lath and plaster ceiling. What can I do?

Provided the joists are at least 37mm wide x 200mm deep with spacings no greater than 600mm, and with floor boarding at least 18mm thick, you can upgrade the ceiling. Drape 25mm chicken wire mesh over the joists, down the side of the joists and over the existing ceiling, stapling it to the sides of the joists. Then install 100mm of Rocksilk Universal Slab RS33 or 100mm of Rocksilk Flexible Slab between the joists and onto the wire mesh cradle ensure all slabs are tightly butted together.
