7. I am thinking of installing 200mm insulation
between 100mm deep joists in my loft. I also want to board it out
for use as a storage area. Can you compress the
insulation?
Yes you could, but there would be no benefit in doing this. By
compressing 200mm to 100mm the thermal performance would be reduced
by half. You should batten out the joists to accommodate the extra
insulation thickness. Leave gaps between the boards to prevent any
condensation occurring on the underside of the boarding.
Alternatively, you can install our Polyfoam Supadeck board over the
joists. Polyfoam Supadeck is a composite board consisting of 105mm
of extruded polystyrene laminated to 18mm of moisture resistant
chipboard.
