4 in 10 North East homes 'do not have adequate insulation'
27 January 2010

A
total of 44 per cent of homes in the North East do not have the
recommended minimum levels of insulation fitted, it has been
reported.
It is recommended that homes are fitted with at least 27 cm of
insulation, which could save householders around £150 a year on
heating bills, according to the Energy Saving Trust.
The trust also points out that if every home in the North East did
fit the recommended levels of loft insulation, a total of 110,000
tonnes of CO2 could be saved every year.
In addition, £20 million could be saved on heating bills.
Energy Saving Trust chief executive Philip Sellwood said: "As soon
as the cold weather arrives, everyone is quick to put on a hat or
put their hood up, but we are slow to do the same with our
home."
He added that fitting loft insulation can lead to may interesting
revelations in the loft, including objects of value and
sentiment.
