Energy efficiency scheme benefits Kirklees homes
28 November 2008

More
than 16,000 homes in Yorkshire have seen their energy efficiency
improved thanks to an energy saving scheme.
The Huddersfield Examiner reports Kirklees Council have provided
16,378 homes with free insulation, which could include both
cavity wall insulation and
loft insulation.
In all, officials from the council have knocked on the doors of
78,172 homes since the launch of its Warm Zone initiative in
September and have assessed more than 46,000 houses.
The council estimates that 35,000 to 45,000 homes are suffering
from fuel poverty in the current financial climate, as they
struggling to afford to heat their homes due to rising energy
bills.
It is hoped that the improved insulation work will help cut bills,
with a DVD about energy efficiency being launched, providing
struggling homes with advice.
Kirklees Council covers areas of West Yorkshire including Batley,
Dewsbury, Denby Dale and Huddersfield.
Research from uswitch.com recently found that 59 per cent of
households were keeping their heating turned down as a way of
making financial savings.
