Green Deal 'could be heading for failure'
19 January 2012

The implementation
of the government's new energy efficiency initiative the
Green
Deal could be heading for failure as it does not focus on
delivering value for money, it has been claimed.
According to the Federation of Master Builders (FMB), there is a
need for the government to introduce fiscal incentives for
homeowners to upgrade their property, as well as levelling the
playing field for local businesses to become accredited installers
of energy-efficient technologies.
"The government's delay in approving recognised competency schemes
is not helpful and swift action is needed if the building industry
is going to be ready for the launch in October," commented FMB
director of external affairs Brian Berry.
It follows predictions from the Department of Energy and Climate
Change earlier this month that under the Green Deal the number of
loft insulation projects being carried out will be 93 per cent
lower than the figure seen under the present CERT scheme. In
addition, cavity wall insulation fitting will fall by 70
percent.
