Home insulation suggested by CCC
02 December 2008

Developing
measures to provide better
home insulation for many houses was one of the
recommendations suggested by the Committee on Climate Change (CCC)
as a way of reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
By 2020, the UK must cut the emissions by 34 per cent and the CCC
has advised the government on ways to help this figure be
achieved.
Among them include the need to improve energy efficiency in homes
and offices.
Some 13 million homes could benefit from improved
loft insulation to limit the amount of heat that
escapes into the atmosphere, while
cavity wall insulation would benefit a further
11 million homes.
The committee added that the government could reach its target at a
cost of one per cent of GDP in 2020, as well drawing on the
benefits of green technologies already in place.
A specialist effort has been made to improve the insulation in new
build properties, with findings from National Energy Services
showing that newly built properties are up to 40 per cent more
energy efficient compared with homes built at the start of the
millennium.
