Improving efficiency for UK housing 'is vital'
09 February 2012

It is vitally
important that the government moves to tackle rising emissions
across the UK and delivering reductions in the housing sector
should be viewed as a top priority, one sector expert has
argued.
Daniel Green, chief executive officer at HomeSun, said the issue
needs to be addressed in the near future, but the incoming
Green
Deal remains very difficult for the public to understand as at
present, while over 20 per cent of our emissions are coming from
our
homes
He commented: "So it absolutely is important that we deliver on
[reducing] that, but the government is ultimately asking the public
to pay for it."
Mr Green added that a failure of the Green Deal will ultimately
lead to greater expense for the taxpayer if a new initiative needs
to be introduced in the years to come.
According to the latest figures from the Department of Energy and
Climate Change, UK emissions increased by 3.1 per cent in
2010.
The largest rises were seen in the residential and energy
sectors.
