Insulation grants 'are available to householders'
05 February 2010

There
are a range of grants available to householders looking to reduce
their energy bills by installing insulation or carrying out other
energy-efficiency measures, according to an organisation focused on
promoting action that leads to CO2 emissions reductions.
Dr Paula Owen, head of knowledge services for the Energy Saving
Trust, said that each year around £8 billion of energy is wasted in
the UK due to poor insulation, inefficient heating systems and
unnecessary use of electricity.
She explained that this amounts to around £125 a year for every
person living in the UK.
Dr Owen recommended that taking measures such as installing loft
insulation can help homeowners to reduce their energy
wastage.
Replacing old boilers with energy efficient models and installing
microgeneration technology can also help improve a home's eco
credentials, she added.
"There are a range of grants available to help people get started,
and the 'clean energy cashback' scheme announced this week also has
potential to get people generating their own energy and
consequently slashing their bills," Dr Owen also noted.
According to Ofgem's chief executive Alistair Buchanan, UK energy
bills are set to rise by 20 per cent over the next ten years.
This could mean it is more important than ever for householders to
reduce their bills by carrying out easy measures such as installing
insulation.
