Insulation spy planes take to the sky
01 February 2010

Planes designed
to highlight areas where homes are losing heat due to a lack of
insulation are to be used across a number of Lancashire towns, a
report indicates.
According to Burnley's Citizen newspaper, spotter planes fitted
with special cameras will reveal the region's true hot-spots.
Thermal imaging cameras will be used to highlight which homes are
allowing most heat to escape.
Advice will then be offered to those whose homes are letting the
most heat out through their roofs.
Energy efficiency champion at the local council Graham Roach told
the paper that it makes sense to cut down on energy use at all
times.
"In the current economic climate anything we can do to help
families and firms cut costs is something we should do," he
added.
Homes that waste heat will be offered advice over what steps can be
taken and given information about what funding is available for new
insulation projects.
The recommended thickness for loft insulation is 27 cm. Having this
much fitted in the home can help to reduce energy bills.
