Managing costs 'key to delivering the Green Deal'
25 January 2012

Managing costs
effectively and ensuring the £200 million earmarked to stimulate
early uptake of the
Green
Deal is fully in place will be key to the initiative having a
positive impact.
In an interview with NE Business, Sarah Green, regional director
for the CBI, stated her concerns that there must be effort to
ensure the work carried out under the programme supplies a return
that is greater than the cost of the loans to carry it out, or
no-one will be enticed to get involved.
Furthermore, accreditation schemes need to be managed properly to
ensure the best quality of work, but not at the cost of
productivity.
Ms Green argued: "While the CBI supports a rigorous accreditation
system for assessors, providers and installers, the government must
not allow the pendulum to swing too far towards costly
regulation."
Earlier this week, chief executive officer at HomeSun Daniel Green
commented that convincing the public of the benefits of taking out
long-term borrowings to boost the energy efficiency of their
property is likely to be easier said than done in the present
financial climate.
