Peer questions Green Deal goals
16 February 2012

Liberal Democrat
peer Lord Ezra is set to question the scrapping of a grant as part
of the introduction of the new
Green
Deal, which has helped to provide energy-efficient property
improvements for vulnerable Britons in the past.
The former party spokesman for energy matters told the Independent
that with the closure of the Warm Front initiative, many people who
would otherwise not be able to afford home insulation and energy
efficiency improvements will be left in the lurch.
Lord Ezra said: "The problem with the Green Deal is that it will
leave the energy-poor in the same position they already are in
terms of bills."
He added that the scheme is a wonderful addition for the well-off,
but it does little to help vulnerable members of society.
Lord Ezra's comments follow those of the Builders' Merchants
Federation, which recently argued in favour of VAT reductions to
all projects carried out under the upcoming Green Deal.
