Plans for Olympic handball arena submitted
06 November 2008

Plans for
a copper clad building that will house the London 2012 Handball
Arena were submitted for planning permission by the Olympic
Delivery Authority (ODA) yesterday.
The arena. which will be in the west of the Olympic Park was
designed by Make Architects, PTW and engineering consultant
Arup.
It has been designed so that when the Games have left the capital
it can be used as a multi-sport venue.
Retractable seating for 6,000 people and the ability to accolade a
wide range of sports are to help contribute to the legacy of the
games in east London.
"This is a simple, sustainable and flexible design that works well
for the Games and legacy," said Olympics Delivery Authority
chairman John Armitt. "The colourful interior will help boost the
Games time experience for athletes and spectators, and in legacy
will become a modern, practical and attractive facility for local
people of all abilities to enjoy a range of sports."
Last month the ODA announced that it had shortlisted five
construction firms for the project.
