Rising energy costs will see more people go green
04 November 2008

More people
will opt for energy efficiency measures such as
loft insulation and
cavity wall insulation as the price of energy
goes up, according to an expert.
All of the big six energy companies raised their prices this year,
with British Gas raising its tariff by 35 per cent.
Given the opportunity to save money and act in an environmentally
responsible manner, people will choose to make their home more
energy efficient, said a spokesperson for renewable technologies
provider British Eco Energy.
He said: "Gas is going up, electricity is going up, if you can save
yourself money and can make yourself more
eco-friendly then more people will go for it."
And he urged households to "try and go for it if you can".
Not only will energy efficiency improvements provide some
protection from rising prices but it will also boost the value of a
home.
According to the Energy Saving Trust's Hidden Value guide, people
are prepared to pay up to £15,000 more for an energy efficient
home.
