Sussex village to get housing boost
29 December 2011

A new housing
scheme to improve homes in the village of Ashurst Wood, in
Hammerwood Road, Sussex is to get underway in the new year.
The Mid Sussex District Council planning committee recently
announced that a group of 12 affordable homes will be built in the
area which will enable residents to remain in the village where
they grew up, the East Grinstead Courier and Observer
reports.
Ashurst Wood Parish Council chairman Jenny Forbes said: "We are
delighted that approval has been given for much needed affordable
homes for local residents, who would otherwise be priced out of
housing in the village."
Problems including traffic congestion, insufficient parking and
lack of drainage encouraged residents to apply for planning
permission to get the go ahead for the new, modern
properties.
Christopher Snowling, the council's cabinet member for health and
community added that providing new and efficient properties for
rural areas created stronger and more sustainable local
communities.
A recent report by Rockwool suggested that 1.3 million people could
be lifted out of fuel poverty through good, modern housing and
insulation.
