Church installs insulation to cut energy bills
21 July 2008

A
number of churches across Coventry have adopted
environmentally-friendly measures in order to cut their carbon
emissions.
St John's Church in Kenilworth has managed to cut its energy bill
by 25 per cent by installing insulation among other measures, the
Coventry Telegraph reports.
Retired engineer Peter Fisher helped to renovate the church along
environmental lines. He said that the initiative began by raising
awareness in the congregation by encouraging them to switch lights
off.
However, the movement grew and Mr Fisher and his colleagues began
reading the church's meter regularly, installed energy saving light
bulbs and fitting insulation.
"We also put some insulation in and installed energy efficient
light bulbs, which has reduced the electricity bill a lot," he
said.
Many churches like St John's have become Eco-Congregations, which
aim to cut the church's emissions and influence the congregations
into living greener lifestyles.
Awards have been distributed to those that have made a significant
impact, including St Francis, Silver End in Essex and Bramford Road
Methodist Church in Ipswich.
