Energy efficiency 'is a priority for UK businesses'
22 July 2008

Energy
efficiency is increasingly being seen as an effective way to cut
costs in business, according to a new report.
A study conducted by the Carbon Trust has revealed that UK
businesses are now putting environmental issues at the top of their
agendas.
Business leaders surveyed by the group indicated that twice as many
companies have been making reducing carbon emissions a priority in
the last six months.
The trust claims that improving insulation, upgrading heating
systems and ensuring that IT equipment is switched off when not in
use can reduce costs and save businesses money - as much as a
cumulative £7 million a day.
Hugh Jones, solutions director at the Carbon Trust, emphasised this
point, saying: "Our new statistics provide stark evidence that if
companies are starting to feel the bite from the economic downturn,
the first place to look for cost savings should be their energy
bill.
"There are literally millions of pounds going out of the window
every day, across the UK."
The Confederation of British Industry has welcomed the report and
reinforces its findings by claiming that climate change is now a
priority for business.
