E.On gas price up 26%
21 August 2008

A gas
price hike of 26 per cent by E.On is likely to prompt many
households around the UK to consider installing insulation.
Around four million customers of the energy company will be
affected by the soaring prices, which have been blamed on the
rising cost of gas on the wholesale markets.
E.On has 5.5 million customers, but 1.4 million are on protected
tariffs and so will not feel the price rises for now.
Managing director Graham Bartlett said: "I'm very aware of the
effect that today's announcement will have on our customers and I
recognise that this is a very tough time for everyone."
"This was not an easy decision to make and we've tried to keep
these increases as low as possible while protecting as many of our
customers as we can."
The announcement follows decisions by British Gas and EDF to raise
their gas costs by 35 per cent and 22 per cent respectively.
According to the Energy Saving Trust, installing loft insulation is
one of the easiest ways to improve a home's energy efficiency,
which could result in lower energy bills.
