Gas costs to rise more
22 August 2008

More gas
price rises are set to come, meaning that now is a good time for
people who have not yet installed insulation to do so.
According to the Independent the price hikes by E.On and Scottish
and Southern Energy (SSE), which were a blow to millions of
households around the country, will be followed by more
increases.
The paper says that the E.On's 26 per cent increase and SSE's 29.2
per cent rise were the last of the second round of rises this year.
Another round of increases will come later this year, it
claims.
But while customers can do nothing about the cost of gas, which is
dictated by the wholesale markets, company profits, tension in
Georgia and leaky pipelines, among others, they can reduce their
gas consumption.
According to the Energy Saving Trust, poorly-insulated walls are
responsible for 33 per cent of heat loss in a home.
The more heat is lost, the more gas is burned so taking steps like
installing both cavity wall insulation and loft insulation will
reduce gas consumption and therefore bills.
