Gas price increases predicted to impact on consumer
18 July 2008

UK gas
prices could be set to rise considerably and impact on consumers, a
new report has revealed.
Increases of between £600 and £1,000 can be expected in the next
decade for domestic gas bills, according to the study published by
Centrica.
Reasons behind the dramatic increases were cited as the falling
levels of domestic gas production and the soaring price of
oil.
And with an increase in dependency on gas imports, the two factors
could result in higher prices across the board.
The price increases may impact on people's day-to-day lives,
according to Jake Ulrich, managing director of Centrica.
"I do think we will see people change their behaviour; I think
people will use less energy," he said.
"I think people will change the temperature they keep the house;
they'll be more cognisant of energy waste, they'll buy better
appliances."
One way in which to save energy could be to install insulation. The
Energy Saving Trust claims that loft insulation alone could save
around £155 on energy bills.
