Highly insulated homes under construction in Somerset
21 July 2008

High
levels of insulation are to be adopted in a series of new eco homes
in Somerset.
Ecos Homes, developer of the site - a brown field location in
Stawell - have planned the new homes for six months.
Five new homes are to be constructed along environmental lines and
will meet level five of the Code for Sustainable Homes. This means
that no carbon will be emitted from the houses' heating, hot water
or lighting systems.
According to the Green Building Press, the houses will be highly
insulated, as well as integrating other energy saving features such
as biomass energy sources and solar panelling.
Executive director of the Ecos Trust Charles Couzens said: "I am
confident that … we will achieve what we set out to do -
demonstrate carbon neutral living in a small community
setting."
Meanwhile, the National Landlords Association has recently advised
property owners to insulate their houses ahead of the upcoming
deadline for landlords to acquire an energy performance
certificate.
