Homes to get new roofs, insulation
07 October 2008

Hundreds
of homes in Barnsley are to have insulation installed as part of
their regeneration.
Some two hundred homes in Thurnscoe are to have new roofs, windows,
doors and insulation installed.
As well as contributing to the regeneration of the area, the
inclusion of insulation in the upgraded homes will mean that
residents' energy bills are lower than they would be
otherwise.
According to the Energy Saving Trust (EST), as much as 15 per cent
of heating costs are spent on heat that escapes through the roof in
houses without proper insulation.
Any insulation will help cut energy bills, but the recommended
thickness is 270 millimetres.
The EST claims that in an average house with no insulation, annual
savings of about £155 will be made by installing
loft insulation. A home that already has more
than 50 millimetres of
loft insulation will still save around £45 a
year on energy bills.
