Insulation to be used in Northstowe
20 August 2008

Insulation
is bound to play a central part in helping 9,5000 new homes meet
level six of the Code for Sustainable Homes.
The Northstowe development on a former RAF site will cover 427
acres and will house 24,000 people in homes built to the highest
standards of the code.
The code, which replaced the Ecohomes standard last year, rates
homes on their sustainability, taking into account their energy
efficiency.
According to the Energy Saving Trust, insulation is the easiest way
to boost a home's energy efficiency.
As well as having incredibly efficient homes, the people who move
in to the new development will benefit from two employment
areas.
According to English Partnerships, which is developing the site in
accordance to its Carbon Challenge scheme, the town will be large
enough to be self sustaining.
One third of its area will be open space and it will feature one
secondary school, six primary schools, three sports hubs and 20
play areas for children.
