Green Deal cashback scheme extended
The government has announced an extension to its cashback scheme for Green Deal subscribers, as it looks to encourage more people to sign up to the initiative that has so far proven less than attractive to many.
Based on the premise of property-linked loans for energy-efficient home improvements, individuals who have work carried out repay these loans through the savings they make on their energy bills.
However, having been launched at the end of January last year, the following 12 months have seen just one per cent of people who had Green Deal assessments completed going on to have work carried out based on the assessor's recommendations.
Now the government is looking to sweeten the deal for homeowners by offering cashback on green measures including solid wall insulation, insulation for loft conversions and double glazing.
It remains to be seen whether this tactic will have the desired effect and increase the number of people taking part in the scheme over the coming months.
