Older houses need insulation
26 August 2008

Houses built before the 1960's should have loft insulation
installed, an article in the times urges a new breed of
improvers.
With the slowdown on the housing market, growing numbers of people
are opting to improve their home rather than move home, the article
notes.
Justine Potts of an interior design company told the newspaper that
whereas before the credit crunch people sought her advice to make
their homes seem more attractive to buyers, now they were making
improvements for themselves.
As well as making their home a better place to live in improvers
who make their homes energy efficiency better could be adding long
term value.
Heeding the Energy Saving Trust's advice that insulation is one of
the easiest ways to make a home energy efficient, the article
suggests installing loft insulation, especially in homes built
before 1960.
Energy company regulator Ofgem has also noted that insulation was
largely responsible for a large cut (187TW) in domestic energy
consumption.
