SSE joins gas price raisers
21 August 2008

Householders
around the country may be considering insulation not only to keep
them warm but to protect them from massive price hikes announced by
energy companies.
Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) has become the latest company to
announce a price hike, which will see its gas prices rise by 29.2
per cent.
The energy firm's electricity tariffs will also rise by 19.2 per
cent from August 25th.
Like British Gas, EDF and E.On, who have also announced double
figures price rises, SSE blamed the cost of gas on the wholesale
market.
Phillips-Davies, SSE energy supply director, said: "The world is
experiencing an energy shock of a kind not seen since the early
1970s, but which is likely to have more profound and lasting
consequences.
"Global demand for all types of energy has risen steeply and
supplies of finite resources like oil and gas are under intense
pressure."
According to the Energy Saving Trust, installing insulation is one
of the best ways to reduce energy expenditure and bills.
