Knauf Insulation continues to party on thanks to shortlist success
Knauf Insulation’s Supafil Party Wall insulation has successfully been shortlisted in the Housebuilder Product Awards 2015: Best Brand New Product category.
Throughout the award entry, Knauf Insulation demonstrated to the judges that this product enabled a quick and simplified installation process for housebuilders. Due to its new blue colouration, Supafil Party Wall makes it easier for housebuilders to identify if they have the correct insulation solution installed in the right application - also helping to promote compliance with Robust Details.
Knauf Insulation has also recently released Environmental Performance Declarations for the Supafil range– making the company the first insulation manufacturer in the UK to obtain them in its product sector.
On Thursday 25th June, all winners will be announced at the gala lunch at Edgbaston Stadium - good luck to all those who have been shortlisted!
El Clasico dreams come true for winners of Earthwool OmniFit competition
Two lucky winners headed off to Barcelona to watch the biggest football club game in the world - the El Clasico rival match between Barcelona and Real Madrid - after winning Knauf Insulation's Earthwool OmniFit competition.
To celebrate the launch of our new insulation range, which is softer to touch, easier to handle and kinder to the installer, Knauf Insulation ran a competition to win tickets, flights and accommodation for the European match. The winners where John Rowe, from Aspect Property, and Richard MacDonald, from Selco Builders Warehouse.
John commented: "I bought the Earthwool OmniFit insulation from Gibbs and Dandy in Eastbourne for a loft insulation project and was thoroughly impressed. I've used Knauf Insulation products before so knew what quality to expect and this new range is no different - no itchiness, easy to cut and flexible so it fits easily.
"I saw the competition details on the packaging and thought why not enter. I never thought I’d win and still can’t believe my wife and I got to go and watch the match.”
Richard said: "I first saw the product when Knauf Insulation came to our branch in Reading to complete a demo and training exercise. The new range has some really great benefits and I knew it would sell easily to installers. I entered the competition as soon as the training was complete and I never thought I’d win and still can’t believe that I went to watch my first European game.”
Knauf Insulation's Earthwool OmniFit range has been designed for multiple applications and is a result of extensive research with builders, contractors and insulation specialists. Using this feedback, we have developed an insulation solution that is not only kinder and more practical to the user, but is also an essential offering for the merchant. All three products in the range help meet Building Regulations and have outstanding thermal, acoustic and fire performance. What's more, the range includes more material per pallet, meaning merchants can fit more material into their allocated storage space.

Supafil Party Wall awarded BBA certificate
Knauf Insulation’s Supafil Party Wall Insulation has been awarded a British Board of Agrément (BBA) certificate. This is the first BBA certificate for an existing party wall solution.
The BBA is the UK's major authority offering approval and certification services to manufacturers and installers supplying the construction industry. It has undergone rigorous testing and has successfully met all the requirements set out by the BBA.
Supafil Party Wall insulation is a proven solution to eliminate heat loss (known asparty wall thermal bypass) in uninsulated party wall cavities in new and existing homes. The unbonded, non-combustible glass mineral wool insulation prevents heat loss; and when used in conjunction with effective edge sealing – fully filling the cavity – the solution allows a zero effective U-value to be used within SAP calculations for new dwellings.
As well as being an excellent thermal insulant, it also has good sound absorption characteristics, which helps to ensure that when a party wall is upgraded it complies with the requirements of Approved Document Part E of the Building Regulations - designed to protect occupants from noise in adjoining rooms or buildings.
Steve Smith at Knauf Insulation commented: “We are committed to developing sustainable solutions and with Supafil Party Wall having met the standards required by the BBA, it demonstrates that our manufacturing processes are at an extremely high standard. It also offers our customers another assurance of quality.”
Heat lost through party wall cavities is now also included in the new version of RdSAP – version 9.92. This comes following research headed by Leeds Beckett University (formerly Leeds Metropolitan University), MIMA (the Mineral Wool Insulation Manufacturers’ Trade Association) and Knauf Insulation, which found that a significant amount of heat is lost through uninsulated cavity party walls.
Warm, dry, full fill cavity insulation
With builders working to a wide variety of Building Regulations, the choice of cavity wall insulation techniques and materials has never been greater. What’s more, with some regulations requiring different back stop U-values across the UK, being sure of what is right and what is not right can be problematic.
The LABC and National House Building Council (NHBC) state that a 50mm residual cavity is maintained in external walls in areas of very severe exposure (to wind driven rain), where fair-faced masonry is proposed as the external finish. However, it is common that the outer skin of the cavity wall of homes built in such areas are designed with a further layer of cladding or render to match the existing local architecture. This allows the cavity to be fully filled with insulation and so makes compliance with the Total Fabric Energy Efficiency (TFEE) targets, set out in ADL1A of the Building Regulations for England, easier to achieve.

Avaaz petition supports warm homes as a national infrastructure priority
The low performance of many UK homes to retain heat has been highlighted by politicians since the 1970s. But recent evidence suggests that as well as being expensive, cold homes cause significant health impacts. Current schemes do not go far enough.
It is for this reason, that we as Knauf Insulation have joined the Energy Bill Revolution which is campaigning for two million low income homes to be insulated to a performance band of C by 2020, with additional targets to 2025.
We have signed the Avaaz petition, and we are urging you to do the same, calling for action on cold homes. You can find the petition by clicking this link.
Knauf Insulation exhibiting at the CIH Conference
The Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) is the independant voice for housing and the home of professional standards.
We will be exhibiting at their CIH South West Conference and Exhibition on the 15 - 17 April at the Riviera Centre, Torquay.
Knauf Insulation will be showcasing an array of refurbishment solutions to make buildings more energy efficient and reduce fuel bills. These include;
Party Wall Insulation - Supafil Party Wall insulation is a new and proven solution to eliminate heat loss (known as party wall thermal bypass) in uninsulated party wall cavities in new and existing homes.
ThermoShell External Wall Insulation – providing a high level of thermal performance to the external shell of the property. Available with rock mineral wool or expanded polystyrene insulants, ThermoShell EWI allows you to upgrade the thermal performance of the property with little disruption to the interior.
Loft Storage System – a combined insulation and storage system providing an efficient means of thermally insulating the loft at ceiling level. Whilst at the same time creating a robust storage platform – saving time and minimising disturbance to the householder.
