Knauf Insulation, the UK’s leading manufacturer of insulation products, is pleased to announce that its rock mineral wool manufacturing plant in Queensferry, has won the Most Environmental Business and Most Sustainable Business categories at the 2012 Flintshire Business Awards.
The Queensferry plant met all of the rigorous criteria set out for the awards, including minimising the environmental impact of its operations through a reduction in emissions (liquid, solid and gas) for the environment award. The plant achieved this by conducting annual assessments of the environmental impact of its processes, so that it can clearly identify the areas for development to ensure continual improvement across the board.
Sourcing raw materials from a local quarry, as well as utilising waste from other UK industrial companies, helped the plant meet the criteria for the sustainable business award. The manufacturing plant also proved that it had studied its products and reduced their environmental impact throughout their life cycle – both from raw materials extraction to the final fate after use.
Mark Lewis, Plant Manager at Knauf Insulation’s Queensferry plant said: “Winning two awards at the Flintshire Business Awards is a fantastic achievement and validates the hard work and efforts of our staff in putting the company’s sustainability vision into practice.
“The awards prove that Knauf Insulation is not only being recognised for its exceptionally innovative products and efficient manufacturing processes, but that the company also plays an important role in the local and wider community, ensuring its continual commitment to the environment and sustainable development.”
