KNAUF INSULATION ACHIEVES U-VALUE COMPETENCY STATUS - 8.7.10

Knauf Insulation has received British Board of Agrément
(BBA) U-value competency status, for assessing and
monitoring U-value and condensation risk calculation
competency.
One of the first applicants to receive the
status, Knauf Insulation has successfully demonstrated the
appropriate technical capability and in-house procedural controls
to ensure its declared U-value calculations are accurate and
reasonable by BBA standards within the industry.
The assessment is made of an individual’s
competency for U-value calculations and condensation risk within
the areas of masonry, steel and timber frame constructions. The
scheme covers all elements of walls; external, basement and dormer
cheeks, floors; ground supported, suspended, semi-exposed, exposed
and basements along with roofs; flat, sloping and horizontal
insulated ceilings.
The company’s Technical Advisory Centre team
of dedicated ‘competent persons’ had to complete four separate and
comprehensive stages, which included an initial screening, an
office inspection, validation and conclusions, followed by issue of
a Certificate to the Competent Person and ongoing surveillance.
“The competency status is extremely important
for the industry to ensure that U-value calculations are consistent
from one project to another and from one supplier to another.
With changes to Part L and strict Building Regulations to adhere
to, this industry status has now provided a framework for only
competent persons (who meet the scheme’s requirements) to ensure
the accuracy of all calculations carried out under the scheme –
giving greater assurance to specifiers and contractors alike,”
explains David Khan, technical product manager at Knauf
Insulation.
