Knauf Insulation Helps Build More Energy Efficient Homes
01 Mar 2007

Knauf Insulation, the UK’s leading manufacturer of insulation
products, and the only producer of four types of insulation: glass
and rock mineral wool, extruded polystyrene (XPS) and extruded
polyethylene (XPE), is helping self builders and home renovators
understand how they can improve the energy efficiency of their
homes at Buildstore in Swindon.
Buildstore – the impressive National Self Build and Renovation
Centre that opened earlier this year – is spread over 67,000 sq ft,
and looks set to revolutionise self building and renovating in the
UK. It is open to the public and will help tens of thousands of
people understand the process of building and renovating their
homes, including everything from tools to budgeting and choosing
the right materials. Reports show that around 42% of home owners
are planning to revamp their properties and in 2006 alone there
were over 300,000 applications for residential planning
permission.
Knauf Insulation will provide expert information and advice at its
Buildstore stand (54) on the two common types of wall design:
Timber Frame External Wall and Masonry Brick and Block to show
compliance with the new Part L Building Regulations. It will also
demonstrate how to meet Part L in the roof with a Cold or Warm Roof
design, utilising its full range of Crown glass and Rocksilk rock
mineral wool insulation materials in addition to Polyfoam extruded
polystyrene (XPS). Knauf Insulation’s products contain up to 55%
recycled content, and because they are the only company in the UK
to offer four different types of insulation, can advise you which
product best suits your needs and reduce carbon within the
home.
Phil Rigby, Insulation Academy Manager, from Knauf Insulation
comments: “With our wide portfolio of products, our insulation
knowledge and expertise is second to none and we are able to
provide anyone looking to construct their own home with the latest
information and best unbiased technical advice.
“What’s more, we have a thorough understanding of energy efficiency
in buildings and are very proud to have developed some useful
calculation tools including the only FREE BRE approved SAP 2005
calculator, a model design calculator and an elemental U-value
calculator – which are available to use FREE OF CHARGE on our
website – to help builders meet the ever increasingly stringent
building regulations and understand how to reduce carbon from
dwellings.”
Knauf Insulation is always looking for ways in which to improve its
carbon footprint and uses up to 55% recycled content in its glass
and rock mineral wool products. Furthermore, Knauf Insulation is
the only insulation manufacturer to be awarded Energy Savings Trust
recommended status on its Polyfoam Supadeck, which has been
specifically designed to combine thermal insulation and decking for
storage in pitched roof loft spaces.
