KNAUF INSULATION SETS A CLEAR COURSE TO A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE WITH CARBON TRUST STANDARD - 16.11.10

Knauf Insulation is now the bearer of the Carbon Trust Standard
after taking action to measure, manage and reduce its carbon
emissions by more than 1,600 tonnes over the past three years.
The Carbon Trust Standard is the world’s first award that
recognises organisations for real carbon reduction. Based on
a rigorous, independent assessment, it certifies that organisations
have measured, managed and reduced their carbon emissions across
their own operations, and are committed to reducing them year on
year.
Allan Morgans, European Energy Manager, said: “We’re delighted
to bear the Carbon Trust Standard. It’s a great way of
showing that we are on the front foot when it comes to carbon
management best practices, and gives us an opportunity to
communicate our environmental credentials with integrity to those
that matter.
“Cutting carbon is a priority for us as a business and is
another step forward in our drive for a sustainable future.
By going through the Carbon Trust Standard assessment process we
were able to develop and drive energy efficiency action plans and
identify further areas for improvement – bringing tangible and
significant savings across our operations.”
Harry Morrison, General Manager of the Carbon Trust Standard,
said: “Being certified with the Carbon Trust Standard is proof that
an organisation has taken genuine action to reduce its impact on
climate change. We congratulate Knauf Insulation on this
achievement.”
Knauf Insulation has long been committed to cutting carbon and
has been accredited to the Energy Efficient accreditation scheme
(the forerunner of the Carbon Trust Standard) since 2004.
Knauf Insulation estimates that since 2000, the glass mineral
wool sites have slashed their carbon intensity by 40 per cent,
while the rock mineral wool site has seen a 26.8 per cent reduction
in carbon intensity below the base line period of 1999.
Some of the energy saving measures include energy action
planning, staff energy efficiency awareness training, installation
of smart metering to automatically monitor half hourly energy use,
process plant improvements on emission control systems, variable
speed drives on air compressors, fans and pumps and intelligent
lighting systems.
