KNAUF INSULATION TAKES IMPORTANT STEP TOWARDS GREATER SUSTAINABILITY - 10.11.11
Knauf Insulation is proud to have achieved one of the most
important and widely respected International Management Standards
for sustainability – EN 16001 (Energy Management) – in a clear
demonstration of the company’s commitment to improving the
sustainability of manufacturing and products.
EN 16001 (Energy Management) is a framework for the systematic
management of energy and represents the latest best practice,
building upon existing national standards and initiatives.
Knauf Insulation is therefore delighted to have reached the
exacting standards required by the framework and is further pleased
to have had this achievement certified by one of the leading
conformity assessment organisations, Bureau Veritas.
Allan Morgans, European Energy Manager,
commented: “Individual commitments are important but putting
the right management systems in place will help ensure that Knauf
Insulation can continually improve across all key sustainability
metrics. Insulation has a critical role to play in creating a
sustainable built environment – at the same time, insulation
manufacturers also have an important responsibility to ensure that
insulation and its manufacture becomes ever more
sustainable.”
Being one of the fastest growing manufacturers of insulation
materials, Knauf Insulation’s attitude and effect on the
environment in which it operates has grown, and with it, so has
Knauf Insulation’s responsibility to manage these impacts
responsibly. As such, the company published ‘Insulation
Matters’, its first Group Sustainability Report in December 2010,
which set out activities during 2009 and 2010, as well as details
about how Knauf Insulation will continue to grow responsibly in the
future.
Twelve months on, and the company is now publishing its second
Sustainability Report, which looks at the issue of energy
dependence and the crucial role that energy savings from the built
environment have to play in improving the global situation.
Recognizing that this is not an easy task, the report also looks at
the challenges that exist for both delivering low energy buildings
and in improving the sustainability of both insulation products and
company performance.
Within the report, Knauf Insulation sets clear long-term
sustainability goals, to give a definite direction for where the
company is heading. Therefore, whilst last year’s Sustainability
Report was a first snapshot of where Knauf Insulation stood on
sustainability, this year’s report goes beyond simply reporting on
figures and instead sets out focus areas and aims, including a
commitment to zero waste and zero carbon production, as well as
becoming an employer of choice.
