Knauf Insulation - the UK's leading manufacturer of glass and
rock mineral wool, extruded polystyrene (XPS) and extruded
polyethylene (XPE) insulation – is the only insulation manufacturer
to be awarded Energy Savings Trust recommended status on its
Polyfoam Supadeck, which has been specifically designed to combine
thermal insulation and decking for storage in pitched roof loft
spaces.
Traditionally, Crown Loft Roll is used to insulate loft spaces,
however some people prefer to partially board their lofts to create
more storage space. Polyfoam Supadeck provides the perfect
easy-to-install solution. It is a two-in-one high performance XPS
rigid board insulation which is 100% ozone friendly and designed to
achieve the Building Regulations requirement for 0.16W/m2K U-Value
in loft insulation applications. What’s more, it allows homeowners
to board their loft without a loss of insulation performance.
The thermal resistance of two layers of board is 3.60m2K/W
(equivalent of 160mm of glass mineral wool as supplied to the
retail market). When used in conjunction with a chipboard facing,
the two layer solution is the equivalent of the current
recommendation for 170mm of glass mineral wool to be laid above
ceiling joists.
Mark Thompson, Polyfoam product manager at Knauf Insulation, said:
“There are more than 20 million homes in the UK of which a large
percentage have inadequate loft insulation. Various informal
surveys of householders, unsurprisingly, reveal that they are not
prepared to sacrifice storage space to top up their mineral wool
loft insulation.
“Polyfoam Supadeck provides a unique solution that allows
householders to upgrade their insulation whilst retaining their
existing chipboard loft storage deck. It is probable that up to 10%
additional energy saving associated with heat loss through the
attics of existing houses will be achieved.”
