DriTherm Cavity Slabs

BBA Logo for Crown SupafilFor the thermal insulation of masonry cavity external walls, either partially filling or fully filling the cavity.

Description

DriTherm Cavity Slabs are semi-rigid or rigid slabs of non-combustible, glass mineral wool with a water-repellent additive. They are 455mm wide to suit standard vertical wall tie spacings, ensuring a closed joint with adjacent slabs.

DriTherm Cavity Slabs have a special additive to make the product water repellent and are produced in three grades:

  • DriTherm Cavity Slab 37 Standard has a thermal conductivity ranging from 0.035 to 0.037 W/mK
  • DriTherm Cavity Slab 34 Super has a thermal conductivity of 0.034 W/mK
  • DriTherm Cavity Slab 32 Ultimate has a thermal conductivity of 0.032 W/mK
More information on the benefits of DriThern can be found in "Rethinking Cavity Wall Insulation - Why specifying DriTherm Cavity Slab is a smarter choice than rigid foam boards in the current economic climate "

Application

DriTherm Cavity Slabs are for the thermal insulation of masonry cavity external walls, either partially filling or fully filling the cavity. They are approved for use in buildings up to 12m high in any exposure zone and for use in multi-storey applications up to 25m in height.

Standards

DriTherm Cavity Slabs are non-combustible inorganic glass wool, defined as mineral wool in BS 3533: 1981 and are manufactured in accordance with BSI Quality Assurance Standard BS EN ISO 9001: 2000.

Durability

DriTherm Cavity Slabs are odourless, rot proof, non-hygroscopic, do not sustain vermin and will not encourage the growth of fungi, mould or bacteria.

Vapour Resistance

DriTherm Cavity Slabs offer virtually no vapour resistance, allowing water vapour to pass freely through the slab.

BBA Logo for Crown SupafilCertification

DriTherm Cavity Slab is certified by British Board of Agrément Certificate 95/3212 which approves its use in buildings up to 12m in height in any exposure zone, and in multi-storey applications up to 25m in height.

DriTherm Cavity Slabs have been used in many buildings over 25m in height, including exposed coastal sites. Approval can be sought from Knauf Insulation Ltd and the British Board of Agrément for DriTherm Cavity Slab’s use in buildings over 25m high.

Guarantee

DriTherm Cavity Slabs are guaranteed for 50 years to resist the transmission of liquid water from the outer masonry leaf to the inner masonry leaf in new external cavity walls and to have a thermal conductivity of 0.032 to 0.037 W/mK at normal building temperatures. Masonry includes bricks, blocks and dressed and reconstituted stone. The guarantee is available by application from Knauf Insulation Ltd.

Environmental

ECOSE® Technology
ECOSE® Technology Logo
Knauf Insulation mineral wool products with ECOSE® Technology benefit from a natural, formaldehyde-free binder made from rapidly renewable organic materials, instead of petroleum-based chemicals, which is up to 70% less energy intensive.

The technology has been developed for Knauf Insulation’s glass and rock mineral wool products, enhancing their environmental credentials without affecting the thermal, acoustic or fire performance. Insulation products made with ECOSE® Technology contain no dye or artificial colours – the colour is completely natural.

DriTherm Cavity Slabs are free from CFCs, HCFCs and any other material with ozone depletion potential in its manufacture and content and represents no known threat to the environment.

DriTherm Cavity Slab’s manufacture has a low impact on the environment and is classified as Zero ODP and Zero GWP.

Moisture Resistance

DriTherm Cavity Slabs contain a water repellent silicone binder to ensure that no liquid water is able to pass through the slab and reach the inner leaf of masonry.

Tests by the British Board of Agrément confirm that DriTherm Cavity Slabs will not transmit water to the inner leaf. Nor will it transmit moisture by capillary action across the cavity or from below DPC level.

Handling and Storage

DriTherm Cavity Slabs are easy to handle and install, being lightweight and easily cut to size.

They are supplied in polythene packs which are designed for short term protection only. For longer term protection on site, the product should either be stored indoors, or under cover and off the ground. Installation instructions are on every pack.

DriTherm Cavity Slabs should not be left permanently exposed to the elements.
