ThermoShell IWI LogoEcoStud is used for the thermal insulation of solid walls as part of the ThermoShell Internal Wall Insulation (IWI) System

Description

EcoStud (patent pending) is a thermally engineered composite of high performance extruded polystyrene bonded to Oriented Strand Board 3 (OSB 3). The OSB 3 component is sourced from FSC certified forests.

Application

EcoStuds are used for the thermal insulation of solid walls and are installed as part of the ThermoShell Internal Wall Imsulation (IWI) System along with Earthwool EcoBatt.

They are available in a variety of sizes to suit the thermal performance requirements of individual projects.

Standards

The extruded polystyrene component of EcoStud is high performance, 100% ozone friendly, lightweight, rigid insulation. It has excellent structural strength, high compression resistance, is unaffected by moisture and is is manufactured in accordance with BS EN 13164: 2008 and BSI Quality Assurance Standard BS EN ISO 9001: 2008.

The OSB component of EcoStud is manufactured to the specification detailed in BS EN 300: 1997 for OSB/3.

Durability

EcoStuds are tough thermally engineered products and suitable for use in the temperature range of -20 to +70º C.

EcoStud
Performance

Thermal

The extruded polystyrene in EcoStud has a thermal conductivity of 0.035W/mK, the Oriented Strand Board has a thermal conductivity of 0.130W/mK.

Benefits
  • Excellent thermal performance

  • High compressive strength

  • Highly resistant to water absorption

  • Structurally stable in the long term

Vapour Resistance - resistivity

The extruded polystyrene component of EcoStud has a water vapour resistivity of 480 MNs/gm. The OSB component of EcoStud has a water vapour resistivity of 250 MNs/gm.

Environmental

EcoStud is free from CFCs, HCFCs and any other material with ozone depletion potential in its manufacture and content, represents no known threat to the environment and is recyclable.

Moisture Resistance

The extruded polystyrene component of EcoStud is unaffected by moisture. Before installation EcoStud should be conditioned as close as is practicable to the environmental conditions likely to occur in service. The moisture content of the OSB component should under no circumstances exceed 15%.

Handling and Storage

EcoStuds are easy to handle and install, being lightweight and easily cut to size, where necessary. They are supplied in polythene packs which are designed for short term protection only. For longer term protection on site, the product should either be stored indoors, or under cover and off the ground. EcoStuds should not be left permanently exposed to the elements.
