Description
Smoke and Fire Barrier is a non-combustible, flexible mattress
faced on one side with galvanised wire mesh which is stitched to
the mattress with wire. Smoke and Fire Barrier is available either
unfaced or foil faced on one or both sides and is labelled with a
continuous identifying strip, between the wire mesh and the mineral
wool.
Application
Smoke and Fire Barrier is used for the compartmentation of large
cavities. It can be used in the following applications:
- Large cavities beneath metal, concrete and timber decks
- Large cavities above suspended ceilings
- As a cavity barrier in timber roofs
A single layer of 50mm Smoke and Fire Barrier achieves half an
hour fire protection in terms of both insulation and integrity.
Two layers of 50mm Smoke and Fire Barrier with a 50mm airspace
between achieves one hour fire protection in terms of both
insulation and integrity.
Standards
Smoke and Fire Barrier is made from non-combustible inorganic
rock wool, defined as mineral wool in BS 3533: 1981 and is
manufactured to a Quality Assurance system which complies with BS
EN ISO 9001:2000.
Certification
Smoke & Fire Barrier has been subjected to full scale fire
resistance tests to BS 476: Part 22: 1987. Tests included vertical
and horizontal joints.
