Description

Rocksilk Smoke and Fire Barrier is a non-combustible, flexible mattress faced on one side with galvanised wire mesh which is stitched to the mattress with wire. Rocksilk Smoke and Fire Barrier is available either unfaced or foil faced on one or both sides and is labelled with a continuous identifying strip, between the wire mesh and the mineral wool.

Application

Rocksilk Smoke and Fire Barrier is used for the compartmentation of large cavities. It can be used in the following applications:

Large cavities beneath metal, concrete and timber decks
Large cavities above suspended ceilings
As a cavity barrier in timber roofs

A single layer of 50mm Rocksilk Smoke and Fire Barrier achieves half an hour fire protection in terms of both insulation and integrity.

Two layers of 50mm Rocksilk Smoke and Fire Barrier with a 50mm airspace between achieves one hour fire protection in terms of both insulation and integrity.

Standards

Rocksilk Smoke and Fire Barrier is made from non-combustible inorganic rock wool, defined as mineral wool in BS 3533: 1981 and is manufactured to a Quality Assurance system which complies with BS EN ISO 9001:2000.

Certification

Rocksilk Smoke & Fire Barrier has been subjected to full scale fire resistance tests to BS 476: Part 22: 1987. Tests included vertical and horizontal joints.

Performance

Fire Performance

Rocksilk Smoke and Fire Barrier is classified as non-combustible to BS 476: Part 4: 1970 (1984) and Class 1 Surface Spread of Flame to BS 476: Part 7 1997 and Class ‘O’ to the Building Regulations.

Fire Resistance is effective from either side of the barrier. A 50mm Rocksilk Smoke and Fire Barrier satisfies the criteria laid down in the Building Regulations for a half hour cavity barrier.

Rocksilk Smoke and Fire Barrier is odourless and non-hygroscopic.

Environmental

Rocksilk Smoke and Fire Barrier is free from CFCs, HCFCs and any other material with ozone depletion potential in its manufacture and content and represents no known threat to the environment.

Rocksilk Smoke and Fire Barrier ’s manufacture has a low impact on the environment and is classified as Zero ODP and Zero GWP.

Acoustic performance

A cavity barrier comprising one layer of foil faced 50mm Rocksilk Smoke and Fire Barrier can offer significant sound reduction. When coupled with a ceiling system offering at least 32 dB sound reduction and fixed to the head of the partition offering 44 dB sound reduction, the flanking path through the ceiling and cavity barrier can also achieve a sound reduction of 44 dB.

Handling and Storage

Rocksilk Smoke and Fire Barrier is easy to handle and install.

Rocksilk Smoke and Fire Barrier is supplied in polythene packs, which are designed for short term protection only. For longer term protection on site, the product should be stored either indoors, or under cover and off the ground. Installation instructions are on every pack.

Rocksilk Smoke and Fire Barrier should not be left exposed to the elements.
