RockSoffit Linerboard

For the thermal and acoustic insulation of residential and non-residential soffit applications, whilst also providing enhanced fire resistance performance.

Description

Soffit Linerboard Extra is a laminate of fire resistant slab and a tough, weather resistant external grade facing board.

Soffit Linerboard Standard is a laminate of fire resistant slab with a tough, puncture resistant black tissue facing.

Both are thermally efficient, improve acoustic performance, are noncombustible, and provide a robust faced solution suitable for installation in exposed or semi exposed environments such as those associated with open sided car parks.

Soffit Linerboard is square edged.

Application

For the thermal and acoustic insulation of residential and non-residential soffit applications, whilst also providing enhanced fire resistance performance.

Both Soffit Linerboards are 1200 x 600mm for ease of handling. The non-combustible nature of the insulation in both Soffit Linerboards makes them ideal for soffit lining and underlining of car parks and garages.

The rock mineral wool insulation used in this solution offers high thermal performance and has good compression resistance.

Standards

The mineral wool of both Soffit Linerboards is non-combustible inorganic rock wool, defined as mineral wool in BS 3533, manufactured in accordance with BSI Quality Assurance Standard BS EN ISO 9001: 2000.

Permanence

The rock mineral wool in both Soffit Linerboards is rot proof, does not sustain vermin and will not encourage the growth of fungi, mould or bacteria. The mineral wool is also odourless and non-hygroscopic.

Performance

Thermal Performance

The rock mineral wool content of Soffit Linerboard has a thermal conductivity of 0.037W/mK, the facing board on Soffit Linerboard Extra has a thermal conductivity of 0.193W/mK.

Fire Performance

The rock mineral wool content of both Soffit Linerboards is classified as Euroclass A1 BS EN ISO 13501-1 and has an extremely high melting point of over 1000ºC. In the event of a fire it will emit negligible quantities of smoke and fumes and the heat emission from the product is insignificant.

The facing of both variants is classified as Class 1 Surface spread of flame to BS 476: Part 7:1987, and Class ‘O’ to the Building Regulations.

Benefits
  • Weather resistant
  • Fully non-combustible
  • Suitable for refurbishment
  • Aesthetic finish with other facings available on application

Environmental

Soffit Linerboard is free from CFCs, HCFCs and any other material with ozone depletion potential in its manufacture and content and represents no known threat to the environment.

ECOSE® Technology
ECOSE® Technology Logo
Knauf Insulation mineral wool products with ECOSE® Technology benefit from a revolutionary, bio-based, formaldehyde-free binder technology, based on rapidly renewable materials, instead of petro-based chemicals. It reduces embodied energy and delivers superior environmental sustainability.

The technology has been developed for Knauf Insulation’s glass and rock mineral wool products, enhancing their environmental credentials without affecting the thermal, acoustic or fire performance. Insulation products made with ECOSE® Technology contain no dye or artificial colours – the colour is completely natural.

Soffit Linerboard’s manufacture has a low impact on the environment and is classified as Zero ODP and Zero GWP.

Fire Performance

The mineral wool of Soffit Linerboard is classified as Euroclass A1 BS EN ISO 13501-1.

Soffit Linerboard can be used up to an operating temperature of 850°C. In the event of fire it will emit negligible quantities of smoke and fumes. The heat emission from the product is insignificant.

The cement based facing board is classified as Class 1 Surface Spread of Flame to BS 476: Part 7: 1987.

Moisture Resistance

Both Soffit Linerboards have moisture resistant facings which make the product suitable for applications where it will be installed in exposed or semi exposed environments such as those associated with open sided car parks.

Handling and Storage

Soffit Linerboards are supplied on non-returnable wooden pallets wrapped in a polythene hood for temporary protection during transit and on site.

For longer term outside storage (stock or site) the pallets should be stored under a secure waterproof covering. If the boards do get wet allow them to thoroughly dry before installation.

When cutting the facing board on Soffit Linerboard Extra it is advisable to wear a face mask to guard against dust. No special protective clothing is required.

Installation

Both Soffit Linerboards are fixed directly to the structure using a suitable mechanical insulation fixing of types as recommended for soffit linings by Hilti, Ejot, Fischer or similar to support a solution of c.18kg/m2. This is typically six fixings in a 1200 x 600mm sheet, though Knauf Insulation advises you to seek advice from the specific fixings manufacturer.

For ease of fixing, the facing board can be pre-drilled at fixing points prior to horizontal working. At junctions and edges care should be taken to ensure the insulation is covered with external grade board at all times in the case of Soffit Linerboard Extra; or a suitable flashing at edges in the case of Soffit Linerboard Standard.
