ThermoShell - BOND XP

A specifically designed bonding and reinforcing render for the adhesion and overcoating of XPS plinth boards

Description

ThermoShell (TS) - BOND XP is a specifically designed bonding and reinforcing render for the adhesion and overcoating of Knauf Insulation XPS (Extruded Polystyrene) plinth insulation boards. TS-BOND XP can also be used in areas of splash back onto concrete as well as a reinforcing render for the ceramic cladding of the Knauf External Wall Insulation system.

Application

Clean down background to remove any dust, dirt or any matter which will impair the bonding of the render, using a high pressure water jet where necessary. Mask all dirt sensitive elements.

For hand application mix accordingly and leave to stand for 15 minutes before re-stirring. Apply render within 2 hours.

All ThermoShell products should be installed by an approved ThermoShell installer.

Bonding

For hand application apply the TS-BOND XP around the edge of the insulation board with 3 palm size dabs to the centre of the board. The approximate contact coverage should be = 40% once the boards have been pressed into place with the substrate. Approximate thickness of the adhesive coat to be 10mm.

For machine application the above can be followed or alternatively the substrate can be sprayed in a ribbon pattern (=60% contact area) 80mm spacing between the strips. The insulation boards are then pressed back into the adhesive and levelled.

Allow 48 hours to dry before continuing works

Application

Reinforcing

Apply TS-BOND XP to a thickness of 5-7mm and level out. Whilst the render is still wet embed TS-REINFORICNG MESH to the whole surface overlapping the edges by a  minimum of 100mm. Press the mesh just below the surface and level off.

Allow a minimum of 8 days drying time. Allow a minimum of 21 days prior to ceramic cladding.

Where the render is to be subjected to higher loads then apply a second layer of TS- BOND XP and TS-REINFORCING MESH 4mm thickness. Allow 8 days to dry fully.

TS-BOND XP is suitable for application thicknesses up to 15mm for reinforcing and no more than 20mm for bonding.

Do not carry out works if the aire or surface temperature is +5ºC and falling.

Wash all equipment and tools immediately after use.

Safety at work

Mineral renders exhibit an alkaline reaction upon contact with water and therefore may cause skin irritation or eye damage. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Wear eye/face protection In case of contact with the eyes rinse immediately with clean water and seek medical advice.

Environmental

TS-BOND XP possesses no contents that are ecological hazards and therefore represents no known threat to the environment.

Handling and storage

TS-BOND XP is supplied in 25kg bags and should be stored In a dry moisture protected environment. Shelf life of 12 months, subject to cool frost free storage.
