Non-combustible fire performance - Mineral
Wool and fire protection
Both glass and rock mineral wool have
the highest Euroclass A1 fire classification. Mineral wool is the
ideal fire protection material since it is non-combustible, it will
not burn, give off toxic smoke or suddenly ignite in a fire due to
‘flashover’.
In fighting fires time is essential,
particularly in the first few minutes of a fire. A room fire
reaches 700°C in the first fifteen minutes and can then can
increase to 1100°C. Fire-resistant materials such as mineral wool
provide those extra vital minutes to delay the fire spreading and
help save lives, money, property and pollution.
Insurers offer reduced premiums for
buildings with upgraded fire protection measures and buildings
insulated with non-combustible mineral wool often attract lower
insurance premiums.
