Typical Specification Clauses

Square or Rectangular Ductwork: Thermal Insulation

D1 Bright Class ‘O’ finish

Ductwork to be insulated with Crown Duct Roll/Crown Duct Slab, ......mm thick. The insulation to be cut to fit on site so that the top and bottom pieces overlap the sides. Insulation to be bonded by means of a suitable adhesive in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations.

All insulation pieces to be closely butted together and all joints to be sealed by means of matching self-adhesive tape not less than 100mm wide.

D2 Sheet metal finish

Ductwork should be insulated with Crown Duct Slab as described in specification D1.

Sheet metal of a suitable grade should then be applied following the recommendations in specification P3.

Round or Oval Ductwork: Thermal Insulation

D3 Bright Class ‘O’ finish

Ductwork to be insulated with Crown Duct Roll/Icerock Ductwrap, ......mm thick. The insulation to be wrapped round the ductwork and bonded by means of a suitable adhesive in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations.

All insulation pieces to be closely butted together and all joints to be sealed by means of matching self-adhesive tape not less than 100mm wide.

D4 Sheet metal finish
Ductwork should be insulated with Crown Duct Roll as described in specification D3.

Sheet metal of a suitable grade should then be applied following the recommendations in specification P3.

Note that Crown Duct Roll is only suitable where the metal casing is supported independently.

Ductwork: Fire Protection

Rocksilk PyroDuct .....mm thick to be used to provide ...... hours fire protection (see table on pages 19-27) to steel ductwork as detailed in this schedule (specifier to state which ducts require fire protection). It is to be installed using the ...... fixing system.

Ductwork: Acoustic Insulation

PRODUCT DISCONTNUED

Tanks: Thermal Insulation

Rectangular cold water storage and feed and expansion tanks to be insulated with Knauf Insulation Crown Duct Slab, ......mm thick.

The insulation to be fitted so that two opposite pieces overlap the sides thus maintaining insulation thickness throughout.

The insulation to be bonded to the tank with a suitable adhesive, applied in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations. All slabs to be closely butted together and all joints sealed with a matching self-adhesive tape not less than 100mm wide.

Where necessary, for external applications or where additional mechanical strength is required, the insulation should be protected by sheet metal.

Cylinders and Calorifiers: Thermal Insulation

Cylindrical vessels shall be insulated with Crown Universal Slab type CS ..... thickness ......mm, firmly secure to the vessel with metal bands, adhesive or a combination of both. The metal bands should not be over tensioned so as to significantly reduce the thickness of the insulation. On vertical surfaces, circumferential support rings shall be fitted and spaced apart at distances which will provide adequate support according to the weight of the insulation. The support rings shall protrude from the vessel to a maximum distance of 10mm less than the thickness of the insulation. All joints must be well butted together and vertical joints on adjacent courses staggered. In multi-layer applications, all joints shall be staggered.

The insulation may be fixed to domed ends by impaling over pins and secured with spring washers or forked pins welded to the vessel. In either case, the outer ends of the pins should be depressed below the surface of the insulation to prevent heat being transmitted direct to the covering.

Note: Vessels operating at sub-ambient temperatures must have an adequate continuous vapour seal applied over the insulation and fixings.
