Product

Crown Loft Roll 44 is an unfaced, low density, resilient, non-combustible, glass mineral wool quilt.

Typical Construction

The Crown Loft Roll 44 insulation is positioned immediately behind the outer cladding sheet, providing protection to the spacer system, inner cladding sheet and supporting steelwork against the heat from an external fire source.

Installation

Following the erection of the building frame and sheeting rails, the internal profiled metal liner panels are fixed together with the metal spacer system and thermal break. Seals are applied as necessary to minimise air leakage.

Crown Loft Roll 44 insulation is positioned over the spacer system with all quilt edges tightly butted. Profiled metal external sheets are fixed as soon as possible after the Crown Loft Roll insulation, to avoid exposure to the weather. Protect the installation at the end of each work session and during inclement weather.

Performance

Thermal performance

Crown Loft Roll 44 has a thermal conductivity of 0.044 W/mK.

Crown Loft Roll 44 has been tested or assessed as an approved insulation material to give 15 minutes insulation time in the fire wall designs of most of the major cladding system manufacturers.

Fire walls are tested and certified as complete systems, comprising cladding sheet, liner sheet, rails, spacers and fixings, and therefore the system manufacturer’s design and specification should be followed in detail. The primary consideration in the specification of a fire wall is the period of fire resistance that the wall offers. This certification is held by the various system manufacturers.

Knauf Insulation manufacture a range of fire safe products suitable for use in this application that can also supply the thermal resistance required to enable the system to achieve the required U-value. Refer to system manufacturers for precise details of systems, thicknesses and types of insulation required.
