Knauf Insulation Sustainability Series CPD: The Role of Insulation

Below you can find out more information about our Sustainability Series CPD. With sustainability being such a broad subject in the construction environment, we have split the CPD into 3 modules:

  • Designing for Net Zero Embodied Carbon
  • Designing for Net Zero Operational Carbon
  • Designing for and Evaluating In-use Building Performance

For more detailed information on each module, please see below or you can sign up to our CPD by clicking the button below.

Module 1

Designing for Net Zero Embodied Carbon

Using life cycle analysis to help material choice towards net zero embodied carbon and the use of healthy materials.

THIS CPD INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING TOPICS:

  • Introduction to Life Cycle Analysis & Environmental Performance Declarations (EPDs)
  • How to read an Environmental Performance Declaration
  • Factors impacting on embodied carbon
  • Insulation options and embodied carbon implications
  • Various ways to minimise embodied carbon
  • Considerations for the specification of healthy materials

AIMS OF THIS CPD:

This CPD aims to provide specifiers with an understanding of Life Cycle Analysis, Environmental Product Declarations and embodied carbon. The CPD aims to provide specifiers with the knowledge required to consider embodied carbon implications when selecting and specifying insulation materials as part of their building designs.

Module 2

Designing for Net Zero Operational Carbon

High performance insulation as part of a fabric first approach towards energy efficient buildings and net zero operational carbon.

THIS CPD INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING TOPICS:

  • Energy efficiency of buildings as part the journey towards net zero
  • The role of insulation in achieving a high performing building envelope as part of a fabric first approach
  • U-values explained
  • Solutions to meet & exceed building regulations
  • Considerations other than thermal performance when designing insulation for better buildings

AIMS OF THIS CPD:

This CPD aims to provide specifiers with an understanding of the role of insulation towards designing energy efficient buildings. It provides an overview of how U-values are calculated, in addition to a range of further considerations when specifying and designing insulation and building fabric. The CPD also aims to provide a variety of solutions to achieve varying levels of building efficiency, from compliance with building regulations through to Passivhaus standards.

MODULE 3

DESIGNING FOR AND EVALUATING IN-USE BUILDING PERFORMANCE

A guide to post-occupancy evaluation including building performance metrics towards delivery of real performance in buildings.

THIS CPD INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING TOPICS:

  • The link between designed and real performance

  • The performance gap and contributing factors

  • Considerations and methods for evaluating in-use building performance

  • Knauf Insulation & Knauf Energy Solutions experience and lessons shared

  • Recommended building performance metrics

  • Implications for building design

AIMS OF THIS CPD:

This CPD aims to provide specifiers with an overview of a variety of methods available for evaluating in-use building performance, in addition to implications for building design to help towards delivering real performance.
