Insulation for Partial Fill Cavity Walls

Using a steel frame inner leaf and masonry outer leaf

Application Overview

A partial fill cavity features thermal insulation secured back to the inner SFS frame, leaving a cavity of air between the insulation and the masonry outer leaf, and can be used on buildings of any height.

The cavity between the insulation and the outer leaf performs as a barrier to external moisture, preventing it from tracking to the inner construction.

In addition to thermal performance, fire performance of insulation materials is a crucial consideration, particularly when designing buildings over 18m in height or when the building is to have high occupancy levels or be used by vulnerable occupants.

NOTE: 1.2mm Gauge SFS at 600mm centers, fully filled with Earthwool OmniFit Slab (0.035 W/mK). 2x15mm Standard wallboard internal finish. Earthwool Rainscreen Slab installed with 50mm residual cavityusing using Ancon 25/14 restraint system. Ancon tube (compression sleeves) installed >180mm which is reflected in the calculations.
